5 Tips To Improve Your Sales and Conversion with Solo Ads

I can’t tell you how many times a day I get this question. The truth is working with solo ads are a bit of an art and science. Below are my best tips to improve overall performance.

1. Stop Focusing on Impulse Sales as a Measure of Solo Ad Success

This is a huge noob mistake. Solos should be used simply to build your list. That’s it!

When sales do happen that is great because it helps offset the cost of your solo but the bulk should be made in your list follow-up series because you can contact people over and over, building their trust. Studies show that it takes 7 contacts before the average person will decide to buy.

Think about how you shop for things in your own life especially unique high priced items. Every time your at Costco don’t you try a FREE SAMPLE because there is zero financial risk? How many times do you buy that 50 inch flat screen they have right when you walk in? The answer is not very often, but if you were you would research the most trust worthy brand and product first. Same thing goes for buyers coming off a solo list.

The bottom line is focus on the free aspect of your offer (the optin conversion) as it has little risk to your prospect and does not require much trust.

2. Simplify Your Swipe

If you’re an Internet Marketer like me you may be getting 50 to 100 emails a day, excluding spam. That’s a lot of email to read. The truth is most of us just skim through it. However, the emails that we do spend time with usually have trust associated with them like an email from your mother or business partner. Others, have an enticing subject line that perk our interest.

Given these facts stop using swipes that are too long and have links buried at the bottom. Get straight to the point, offer a strong call to action and watch your conversion improve.

3. Add Content to Your Swipe

I don’t see anybody doing this in the solo industry and yet it’s one of the easiest things you can do to improve your trust, loyalty and conversion. Use a picture in your email. Perhaps one of you at the bottom.

heather_smallPeople want to know who you are. Many want to know what your life is like. If your in the MMO/IM niche like I am it helps to show you walk the walk. Nobody wants to buy from a phony.

Be sure to hyperlink the picture to your offer. That way if someone clicks on it thinking it will take them to some place like Flicker they will actually be taken to your offer.

4. Simplify your Squeeze page

This is the single biggest place where you can make improvements on your conversions. Here are the key tips that have always helped me boost my optins.

• Use a strong, exciting headline with a good call to action and remove most other sales information.
• Have only 1 large text box on the page for entering an email address. Forget storing names and other data as it lowers optin conversion.
• Use a big, bright submit button next to the email text box to complete the optin.
• Add a feel good background, like a picture of a handsome man, pretty women or a south pacific beach. This is soothing and helps put people in the buying mood.
• Most importantly make your email text box and submit button ABOVE THE FOLD. Meaning on the upper top half of the screen. You would be surprised how many people are too lazy to scroll.

5. Track and Learn What Good Traffic Looks Like.

If you get all four of the above items right but have either fake traffic or too much traffic from countries where the median salary is very low your follow up sales will be weak. Therefore, be sure to invest in some quality tracking tools. I have seen a lot of junky ones so be sure whichever you buy or use

While I am not going to get into specific tools in this post whichever tool you do decide to buy should have these basic features.

  • IP HOST <—— This is very important and where many trackers fail to have it. The IP HOST shows the the ISP where the traffic originates. Good traffic should come from “last mile” providers. Like Comcast, Road Runner, Century Link. If you see a lot of web hosts here then I would be suspicious of the traffic.

• Country Code – So you can see where the traffic came from.
• Referer — You can pickup traffic trickery here as well if you know what to look for.
• IP Address – Want to make sure your are getting unique visitors.
• Browser Type – You can spot bots here as well if you see the same browser used over and over again
• Timestamp – Great place to look for bots as the traffic will not come in randomly, but instead come in every 5 seconds right on the clock.
